We dashed off for a quick weekend away at Chincateague Island a couple weeks ago. It was pretty cold and there was a blizzard with howling winds, but we still had a great time. Lots of relaxing, visits to nature centers, brief and brisk walks on the beach and hours and hours playing in the indoor pool at the hotel. Hundreds and hundreds of Snow Geese and Tundra Swans were visiting Assateague Island. We saw Great Blue Herons, Snowy White Egrets and Cardinals. One visitor reported seeing a huge flock of Cardinals. We didn't see any ponies... apparently in preparation for Hurricane Sandy the gates were opened so that the ponies could escape to higher ground. The majority of the herd is now living at the northern end of Assateague Island.
