My daughter performed as a dancing ruby in Sleeping Beauty with her ballet school this past weekend. Leading up to the performance there were many hours of rehearsal and behind the scenes waiting. I volunteered to be one of the dressers for my daughter's group so that meant providing snacks and coloring books and bobbi pins and hair gel for all the little girls. Each day we'd come home and I'd go and on about how exhausted I was and she'd say, "I'm not tired at all." It must be nice to be seven.
The bits and pieces of Sleeping Beauty that I saw during the dress rehearsal were gorgeous. The older toe dancers are so lovely. I was allowed to sneak into the auditorium to see the rubies perform before sprinting back to the stairwell off stage where we did a lot of quiet waiting. The girls were excited and elated after their bows. They wanted to perform again and again.
