I had jury duty on Monday. Fortunately, it did not coincide with my son's orientation at preschool, as I originally feared. And fortunately, my in-laws were still in this country and able to watch the kids for the day. I always hear that jury duty can be a nice day to sit and watch a movie, but I've never once sat in the waiting room long enough to even see the beginnings of a movie... not really sure what they showed. I did not have a sympathetic judge and was not dismissed until almost 6 p.m. At least, I was not chosen in the end, to serve on a five-day murder trial. And I'm so glad that I did bring a book along, because cellphones are not allowed to be used in the courtroom [where I sat all day]. Though I've read this book at least three [or four?] times already, I decided it had been a few years and that it would keep me happy for the day. Have you read Rebecca? I love it... so haunting and romantic and mysterious and easy to picture. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it.
{by the way, the first photo was taken while standing in the security line at the court house. The entrance hall is amazing and I wish that I'd been allowed to photograph the murals and ceiling in that room. The second photo was taken in our downstairs bathroom... Yes, not only do we finally have a bathroom on the first floor, but we even have more than one bathroom. We have three bathrooms. Three. It really is kind of ridiculous, but very nice.}
