We picked apples at the orchard last weekend. I have to admit that over the years, my little girl has formed the opinion that picking apples isn't fun. Sob. It can be hot and tiring and most of all she dislikes the squished apples littering the ground and swarming with bees. I blame it on living in such a highly populated area. We need a faraway orchard that isn't mobbed with people.
After much "discussion" I finally succeeded in prying my family away from our cozy couch and we headed out on our mission for apples, armed with nature bags and cameras. I had suggested that my son make a book about our visit to the apple orchard for his upcoming apple-themed show and tell. He loved the idea and formed a plot and a plan. We also brought along my daughter's Fujifilm Instax Mini camera to keep her happy and entertained.
The kids had so much fun setting up shots and posing for their own photos. I managed to sneak a few photos of my own. And best of all, the kids were so preoccupied with their projects that I didn't hear any complaints.
Little man decided that he wanted to make a book about counting apples backwards and so he posed for a series of shots beginning with just one apple and ending with an armful of ten apples that he could barely hold long enough to get a photo. He had so much fun. Silly, giggly boy.
When we got home, I printed his photos and helped him cut them out, I stitched a few pages together into a book on the sewing machine and then he illustrated each page. I had suggested that he just start with the cover and save the rest for the next but he insisted on finishing it that night. His show and tell project turned out really well, and I suspect he'll remember this apple picking adventure for a long, long time.
